2011 Recap

Please forgive my hiatus. Life took off rather quickly, and blogging fell by the wayside. But never fear, I have returned.

2011. Holy shit, what a year.

Big News:

I started a job as a dance teacher at a fantastic new studio in Austin in January. I'm still there, still enjoying it, and gearing up for a fantastic new fall session. I get to teach jazz, ballet, hip hop, tap, singing performance, and production to crazy adorable little girls. I really like the people I work with there, especially a girl named Katie who went to NYU for theatre and graduated a year before me. We have lots in common and very similar passions. She's a fantastic networker, a great business mind, and makes me laugh a lot. I'm excited to see where our new friendship/working relationship takes us.

I also left my job at the hotel in March for a job in education. I now work as a creative arts teacher for a pre-school in west Austin, which is great as far as hours, schedule, people, and administration. Working for the hotel was honestly the most horrible job I've ever had, and as soon as I left that place, my quality of life improved drastically.

March was also a great month, because I was cast for the first time since moving back to Austin. City Theatre put on a production of This Spring of Love, which was a musical adaptation of Shakespeare's Two Gentlemen of Verona. I played the role of "Julia". I LOVED the cast. I had a couple positive mentions on my performance in some local papers and snagged a gig as a social media guru for City Theatre. Overall a very successful Austin theatre community debut.

In May I was cast as an ensemble dancer in Zilker Theatre's Production of Footloose, as well as the role of "Dawn" in City Theatre's production of HAIR (a show I have been wanting to be a part of for a very long time). Being a part of Footloose ended up being a rewarding experience despite the long rehearsal hours and hot, sweaty nights. I managed to meet some awesome cast-mates, and perform for over 3500 people at one particular performance.

The run for HAIR is in progress. It's a smash hit with sell-outs every night. The cast is just wow. I love them. I can't say enough good things about the entire process.

In June our cat, Otto, didn't return home according to schedule. We spent many days worried sick and finally came to terms with the idea that he was likely not returning. We loved him very much and he will be so missed. It's still hard to think about losing him. But the good news is that we recently adopted a baby kitty we named Berger who we believe was born in June around the time Otto disappeared. Berger is a lovable firecracker. His farts are really stinky, but we love him so much. He's so sweet and playful, and Yoko has basically adopted him as her own.

Marc is doing well as usual. It's hard to believe that we're coming up on our one year anniversary. This past year has certainly had it's difficult times, but the highs far outweigh the lows. I'm all a glow and looking forward to seeing what happens next.
